Vince Delmonte is a champion fitness model competitor (he won the Canadian Fitness Model Championships in 2005) and a successful fitness trainer. You know he knows what he’s talking about, therefore, in this 215 page book on No Nonsense Muscle Building. What’s also nice to see are the topics he covers that you won’t find in other books, like cardio training and an emphasis on flexibility. What’s unique about Vince’s program? An emphasis on the tempo at which one does exercises, and the concept of periodization.
Another unique thing about Vince’s program is that it never goes out of date – when he updates his book with the latest information, you ‘ll get it sent to you, free. There’s also a “No Nonsense Members Zone,” an online community where you can discuss your training, ask for advice, and just chill.
The Training Program
Vince’s weight training program is a bit different than you might be used to, a bit more sophisticated. Many programs are simply “High Intensity Training” (HIT) programs. You use heavy weights, a certain number of reps, and that’s it. Vince’s program provides a variety of reps and sets- so that all fibers of each muscles receive a total workout.
He also places a great deal of emphasis on tempo – the amount of time it takes you to do each rep, and to get through each set. Your tempo – the seconds in which your muscles are under tension – also has an impact on the success of your workout goals.

Cardio

The myth, as Vince points out, is that high levels of cardio can actually strip muscle off your body, when in actual fact, when used properly, cardio can help you gain muscle (as well as improve your overall fitness). Vince’s philosophy is that you don’t use cardio for the first several weeks of your program – first, you pack on the weight, then yo start working on the cardio to get shredded.
Dieting
Weight training is only half the battle to achieving insane muscle gain. Feeding the muscles the appropriate nutrients to ensure their optimal growth is the other half of that battle, and that means consuming eight meals a day.
But, what to eat, and when to eat? Vince covers that too, in this thorough chapter, from how to determine the amount of calories you’ll have to consume each day to achieve maximal muscle growth (he gives you the formulas but also provides a link to his website calculator, where all you have to do is plug in the numbers, and the answers will be provided for you.)
This chapter also goes into in-depth detail on nutrition. After “10 No Nonsense Nutrition Rules For Insane Muscle Gain,” you will understand the reasons behind what you’re doing and the diets he provides (sample meal plans from 2,000 to 6,000 calories each) will make sense to you.
Supplements
Follow Vince’s program to the letter, and you won’t need supplements – most of which don’t work, anyway, and are produced merely so the companies involved can take your money. However, as with most things, there are a specific few supplements that do work, and Vince provide a list of these. He also discusses why some – even popular, well known supplements, should be avoided.

Complaints
From an aesthetic standpoint, the book is displeasing. Red, blue and black print used all over the place. Sometimes even print set in a different font size, the reason for which eluded me.
The Table of Contents gives generic titles for the chapters, but doesn’t go into detail about the sub-topics discussed within each chapter. Since there’s no index, you need to read through everything and make your own notes. In addition, the chapter titles aren’t hot linked to their pages, which would have been nice.
From a program standpoint…no complaints.
